Automated Swarf Removal System

Automatic Swarf Removal Unit (ASRU)

RIGTOOLS has developed the Automatic Swarf Removal Unit to mitigate the hazards associated with handling ditch magnets.
Continuous cleaning of the magnetic surface means that the maximum magnetic field is exposed to the drilling fluid.
With the Patented ASRU - Swarf removal is now a totally automated process with minimal human involvement!

Facts

The Automated Swarf Recovery Unit (ASRU) is positioned
upstream of the shale shakers, typically within the header box
or flowline, to maximize particle recovery efficiency.

Equipped with powerful permanent magnets in each wheel,
the ASRU captures magnetic particles as the wheels turn slowly
in the drilling fluid. These particles are removed into a
collection tray, ensuring a consistently clean magnetic surface
is maintained for effective operation.

This setup ensures a strong magnetic field is always ready to
attract swarf, thereby improving the recovery of magnetic
particles from the mud system. Removing these particles helps
prevent potential failures in mud pumps and MWD tools, and
reduces errors in magnetic surveys.

The ASRU is powered by an ATEX Zone 1 motor and is
certified for use in Zone 1 areas, providing safety and reliability
in challenging environments.

Advantages

High strength permanent magnet

Customizable to different flowline/header box arrangements
add or remove wheels.

"Plug and play installation"

Little to no modification to existing header box is required

Benefits

Eliminate hazards from handling and cleaning heavy ditch magnets
Reduce wear and tear on drilling equipment.
Mitigate risk of downhole tool failure
Reduce NPT
